Flashscore Team of the Season: Who are the best stars from top leagues in 24/25?

With the major European leagues now all done and dusted, it's time to unleash our Team of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign.

As with our regular Team of the Week, we have chosen the following XI using our in-house player rating system.

To select the side, we took the players with the best average match ratings from the top leagues around the world that have concluded. That is, ongoing leagues were not considered. What's more, cup and continental competitions were also not included.

To qualify for the team, players had to earn at least 25 match ratings in the 2024/25 campaign. It should be noted that appearances of less than 10 minutes do not generate a match rating.

Goalkeeper

Marcin Bulka (Nice) - 7.0 (average match rating across the domestic league season)

Our goalkeeper of the season is Marcin Bulka, who was a key player for Nice in their run to a fourth-place finish and Champions League football in Ligue 1.

He was rock-solid throughout a league campaign that he played every single minute of, and produced two excellent performances against PSG, making 20 saves and conceding just two goals in the matches against the champions.

Honourable mention: An honourable mention here goes to Brentford's Mark Flekken, who achieved the same rating as Bulka and made our Premier League Team of the Season.

Defenders

Achraf Hakimi (PSG) - 7.5

Achraf Hakimi's most memorable performances this season may have come in PSG's run to the Champions League title, but he was every bit as good in domestic action.

The full-back ended the season with 10 goal contributions in 25 games and was a real creative force on the right wing, averaging two key passes per game.

Nicloas Otamendi (Benfica) - 7.6

The highest-rated defender in the top leagues this season was Argentine veteran Nicolas Otamendi, who remains a world-class centre-back at the ripe old age of 37.

Not only did he lead Benfica's backline excellently, but he also popped up with six goals at the other end of the pitch. It's easy to see why he remains an important player for Argentina, too.

Davinson Sanchez (Galatasaray) - 7.5

Like Otamendi, Davinson Sanchez is another defender who is showing that there's life after the Premier League, with the former Tottenham player enjoying a hugely impressive campaign with Galatasaray.

The Colombian earned his winners' medal as much as anyone, being a crucial part of the side with and without the ball thanks to his searing pace and ability in possession.

Honourable mentions: Notable defenders who narrowly missed out on our team included Nuno Mendes (PSG - 7.4), Olivier Boscagli (PSV - 7.4) and Maximilian Mittelstadt (Stuttgart - 7.4).

Midfielders

Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) - 7.7

An explanation for teen sensation Yamal being in our team of the season isn't really needed, but we'll give one anyway.

Nine goals and 13 assists are a solid return, but no numbers can do justice to what a force of nature the right-winger already is.

Spain hasn't seen such an exciting talent since a young man called Lionel burst onto the scene at Barcelona all those years ago.

Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) - 7.9

Flashscore's player of the season, going by our internal ratings system, is Michael Olise, who was simply dazzling in Bayern's recapturing of the Bundesliga title.

Whether playing as a right-winger or as a number 10, the 23-year-old was unstoppable, racking up 27 goal contributions and creating 32 big chances in 34 games.

Malik Tillman (PSV) - 7.7

In his second full season at PSV, American midfielder Malik Tillman established himself as the Dutch side's star man as they won a thrilling battle with Ajax to defend their league title.

He ran the show in the majority of matches that he played and was a real goal threat - it's no coincidence that the club's poor run, which almost lost them the title, came when he was out injured.

Jamal Musiala (Bayern) - 7.7

He may have been somewhat overshadowed by Olise and Harry Kane, but Musiala largely thrived in his first season playing under Vincent Kompany at Bayern.

His best football came in the first half of the season, when he was consistently a real force in the final third, and while he did less in front of goal after the turn of the year as he struggled with injuries, he remained a key part of the side when fit.

Honourable mentions: Notable midfielders who narrowly missed out on our team included Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen - 7.5), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig - 7.5) and Dani Olmo (Barcelona - 7.5).

Forwards

Omar Marmoush (Manchester City & Eintracht Frankfurt) - 7.7

Omar Marmoush was mind-blowingly good in the half of the season that he spent at Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, boasting a remarkable average rating of 8.1 with 15 goals and nine assists in 17 games.

His level dropped slightly when he moved to Manchester City, but he still adapted to a new club and new league extremely well, immediately becoming their most dangerous attacker. His overall season average gets him in our team ahead of even Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP) - 7.8

Viktor Gyokeres is being linked with just about every major club you can think in the summer transfer window, and you just need to look at the numbers to see why.

The Swedish striker led Sporting to the Portuguese title with an incredible 39 goals in 33 league games and created a lot of chances for teammates, too. Whoever signs him will be getting one of the most lethal number nines around.

Ousmane Dembele (PSG) - 7.7

Ousmane Dembele is the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or right now, and that's not just because of his Champions League performances.

Absolutely relishing his new role as the focal point of PSG's attack, the Frenchman enjoyed the best league campaign of his career yet, bagging a goal every 83 minutes and wreaking havoc time and time again. Kylian who?
