Match Report
Borussia Dortmund slumped to a 2-0 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday, their third straight Bundesliga defeat, deepening the crisis at the Ruhr Valley club.
The result piles more pressure on already-embattled Nuri Sahin, who still enjoyed the backing of club bosses after their midweek defeat by struggling Holstein Kiel.
The visitors started brightly and had the first chance in the game but Serhou Guirassy's ninth-minute header bounced off the post.
They were then caught completely off guard nine minutes later when Eintracht broke clear and Hugo Ekitike, who launched the move, slotted in to complete it.
It almost got worse for Dortmund moments later as Ansgar Knauff also struck the woodwork for Eintracht.
Dortmund could not find a way back into the game despite prolonged spells of dominance and as they pushed bodies forward in search of a late equaliser, they were caught out.
Oscar Hojlund added another goal in stoppage time, his first of the season, to seal Dortmund's third defeat in three league matches this year.
Eintracht tightened their hold on third spot in the standings with 36 points, two behind champions Bayer Leverkusen in second place, ahead of their game on Saturday. Dortmund are a distant 10th on 25 points.
Data Debrief: Dortmund undone on the road again
Dortmund's away form this season has not been anything to write home about, and that run continued despite a spirited show in Frankfurt.
Sahin's side have picked up just five points from their nine away games in the Bundesliga this season, and have only hit the back of the net four times in those games.
They dominated possession on Friday (67.8%) and had double the number of passes Eintracht managed (705 to their opponents' 342), but their failures in front of goal were at the forefront once more.
They only hit the target with three of their 12 shots, with Eintracht proving more clinical. They had 13 shots overall, with five shots on target, as they created 1.87 expected goals (xG) compared to Dortmund's 0.84.
