Harry Kane believes he has every chance of overhauling Robert Lewandowski's single-season Bundesliga goal record if he stays consistent between now and the end of the campaign.
Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich struck a huge blow in the Bundesliga title race on Saturday, beating rivals Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in Der Klassiker.
Kane's double saw Bayern come from behind to lead at Signal Iduna Park, and though Daniel Svensson got BVB back on level terms, Joshua Kimmich struck an 87th-minute winner for the visitors.
Bayern are now 11 points clear of their nearest challengers with only 30 to play for, and their second title in two seasons under Vincent Kompany appears inevitable.
And there could also be a piece of history made by Kane, as his latest brace took him to 30 goals in 24 Bundesliga matches this season – 11 off Lewandowski's record from 2020-21.
Kane has averaged a goal every 64 minutes in the German top-flight this season, while Lewandowski scored every 60 minutes, on average, when setting the record. The Poland international only made 29 league appearances in that extraordinary campaign.
But Kane has a better conversion rate (31.2%) and higher shooting accuracy (74.8%) this season than Lewandowski managed in 2020-21 (29.9% conversion rate, 58.6% accuracy), and has plenty of fixtures remaining to chase the goals he needs.
Asked if overhauling Lewandowski's record was his aim, Kane said: "For sure. I've got to keep doing what I'm doing.
"There's still a lot of games to play. I need to try to be consistent over that period.
"We'll see from late April, or the start of May, if it's possible. But of course, right now it's there, and I've just got to do what I do."
Despite Bayern strengthening their grip on top spot, Kane warned against any complacency, noting how dropped points against Augsburg and Hamburg in January allowed Dortmund to gain ground on the champions.
"We had an 11-point lead a few weeks ago, and we saw how quickly it can change within two results," Kane said. "So we have to stay focused."
Bayern host Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, before travelling to Bergamo to face Atalanta in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on March 10.
