The 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony was held at the Palladium Theatre in London. Bayern Munich striker Kane won the award, becoming Bayern Munich's fourth Ballon d'Or recipient and the first in 45 years.
Before Kane, three Bayern Munich players had won the Ballon d'Or a total of four times. After Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981, Bayern Munich went 45 years without a Ballon d'Or winner, until Kane ended this drought in 2026.

History will judge this moment harshly. In a single year, Kylian Mbappé finished as top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup, and became the greatest goalscorer in World Cup history along the way. Ballons d'Or come and go every year. A season like this may never be seen again. The football world will one day realise what it chose not to honour.
