Liverpool signing Naby Keita says final farewell to RB Leipzig

Naby Keita bid a fond farewell to RB Leipzig ahead of his move to Liverpool by helping them seal sixth place in the Bundesliga with a 6-2 win over Hertha Berlin and driving up his transfer fee in the process.

Liverpool originally agreed a deal with the German club last August, but the final price was dependent on where they finished in the table. Their sixth-placed finish means the Reds will pay £52.75million.

But the fee could have swung by as much as £11m in a crazy final day in Germany's top flight. Had results gone Leipzig's way, they could have finished as high as third, which would have pushed the fee up to £59m. Had they dropped to seventh, the fee would have been £48m.

Keita played 76 minutes as RB Leipzig brushed Hertha Berlin aside and was given a fitting send off from the travelling fans.

The Guinea international spent over 10 minutes with RB Leipzig supporters at the end of the match with several holding up homemade messages of gratitude.

It was a touching finale, but there was a large sense of disappointment after he was denied the chance to say goodbye to the home fans last week, when a fourth red card of the season rendered him suspended.

The 23-year-old was sent off in a 3-0 reverse against Mainz after receiving a second yellow card in the 95th minute, meaning he was unable to play in their final home game of the season, a 4-1 win over Wolfsburg.

The third time he has been sent off for RB Leipzig this season and a fourth overall, his penchant for ill-discipline may come as a concern to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Indeed, Keita appears to have struggled to rekindle the brilliant form of last season that originally inspired Liverpool to make their move and has become more known for his late challenges, aimless runs and a tendency to disappear.

'Keita has not had the effect he had last year,' said former Germany midfielder Simon Rolfes back in January. 'Too often, he has been undisciplined and has harmed his team.'
