With Łukasz Piszczek's time at Borussia Dortmund coming to an end, Dortmund take a look at whether RB Leipzig's Lukas Klostermann can be his long term successor.
For years now, one of the worst-kept secrets at Borussia Dortmund is that Łukasz Piszczek is getting old. While the former Polish international has been by far one of my favorite players to ever don black and yellow colors, age is catching up with one of Dortmund's most loyal servants.
It's already been confirmed that Piszczek will retire in 2020, and his departure from the club will leave a void that will be extremely difficult to fill.
In the past few weeks, Borussia Dortmund have signed Mateu Morey, who is expected to fill the gap left by Piszczek and Hakimi's departure come next season. The La Masia product joins Dortmund on a free transfer, having snubbed both Juventus and Manchester City in the process.
At 20 years old, Morey offers youth and skill that could grace the Westfalenstadion for seasons to come.
It is without question that Morey has the potential to develop into a truly prolific player for Dortmund. Despite his debut performance for the club, he doesn't solve the issue of right back in the here and now. On top of his relative inexperience in a first team setting, he also brings with him a significant, (and worrisome) injury history.
For Dortmund to continue to challenge Bayern Munich in the coming season and beyond, they must continue with this trend of signing players that will provide an instant impact and improve the quality of the squad. In Morey's case, his ability to provide this instant impact will be very limited.
With that being said, Dortmund still don't really have a nail on the option that can fill the void once Piszczek has played his final game. A player that can provide more of an instant impact, however, is RB Leipzig's Lukas Klostermann.
Klostermann (21) has already repeatedly been linked with Dortmund in the past, with the price of 30 million euros being listed as one of the major stumbling blocks in any potential deal.
