Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel while they attempt to sign David de Gea to a new deal.

There is some uncertainty over De Gea's future at Old Trafford, with the 32-year-old's current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag's side are expected to be in the market for a new keeper regardless of whether they can convince the Spaniard to stay at the club.

As previously reported, De Gea turned down a new deal which would see him take a pay-cut to his current £375,000-per-week wages.

Now German outlet Blick have claimed that United have already 'expressed an interest' in signing Kobel from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Kobel, who is also on the radar of Chelsea and Tottenham, has impressed at the Bundesliga side since joining on a five-year in 2021 from VfB Stuttgart.

United could find it tough to tempt Dortmund to sell the 25-year-old Swiss international, with the Bundesliga side said to be keen on offering Kobel an improved contract.

Should Kobel look to move on, then the Bundesliga side would hope to receive around £45m for their No 1 keeper.

De Gea moved to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has gone on to rack up more than 500 appearances for the Red Devils.

The Spaniard recently surpassed Peter Schmeichel as the club's all-time record holder for clean sheets at 183.

However, he might have to accept a cut to his huge salary if he wants to remain at the club going forward.

A report from the Athletic claimed that the arrival of Alexis Sanchez on a deal worth more than £400,000-per-week in 2018 gave De Gea leverage in talks with then chief executive Ed Woodward.

The report outlines how De Gea has received a good proposal but believes his form and match-winning contributions demonstrate he is still one of the Red Devils' most important players and an appropriate salary should be paid.

It goes on to say that United's negotiations with the shot stopper are expected to reach a positive end.

Dean Henderson, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Man United, is widely expected to leave the club this summer.
