Man Utd transfer news: Ekitike contact made as deal agreed after Onana decision

Manchester United's summer transfer window started with a bang but there've been no confirmed arrivals since Matheus Cunha was announced by the Red Devils exactly one month ago

After June faded fast, Manchester United fans will be hoping for a much busier July as we enter the middle portion of the summer transfer window. The Red Devils started last month by signing Matheus Cunha in a £62.5million deal but failed to do any further business.

It wasn't for the want of trying, though, as Ruben Amorim's side have seen two bids for Bryan Mbeumo rejected. United's second offer totalled £63m including add-ons but Brentford are demanding that amount up front, as they believe that Mbeumo should cost just as much as Cunha.

Talks between the Red Devils and Brentford are continuing, with the player keen on the move after snubbing interest from Tottenham. It's evident that Amorim is prioritising his attack this summer both in terms of incomings and departures.

Four forwards - Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony - aren't part of his long-term plans while there's also been noise surrounding the future of Rasmus Hojlund. Should United manage to sell him, a striker could be next on the club's wish-list.

Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from Old Trafford.

United make contact over Ekitike

Manchester United are reportedly the only club to have made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt to register their interest in signing Hugo Ekitike this summer. Ekitike, 23, has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Chelsea but it appears that United are more serious about recruiting the French striker.

German outlet Bild report that the Red Devils are alone in contacting Frankfurt. But they note that the situation could change if Liverpool sell Darwin Nunez to Napoli.

Youngster set for scholarship deal

Manchester United are said to have fended off interest from top European clubs to secure the future of 16-year-old prospect Jayden Ngwashi. The Manchester Evening News report that the highly-rated centre-back is set to sign a scholarship this week and commit his future to United.

Ngwashi made his league debut for United's under-18s in March and broke into the under-21 squad only a few weeks later. The ball-playing defender also represents England at youth level.

Saudi club opt for Onana alternative

Saudi Arabian side Neom are set to sign goalkeeper Marcin Bulka from Nice after Andre Onana made it clear that he wants to stay at Manchester United. Onana, 29, was linked with a move away following another shaky season between the sticks.

But French outlet Foot Mercato report that Poland international Bulka has chosen to join Neom and that the two clubs have agreed a fee. Sunderland had also reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 side but are set to miss out.
