Lothar Matthäus commented on Bayern's impending €55 million purchase of German international Nathaniel Brown.

In an interview with RTL, Matthäus asserted that the left-back position at Bayern Munich would see "a beautiful competition" between Alphonso Davies and Nathaniel Brown: "I think Bayern Munich really needs this quality of competition – not just in the starting eleven, but also in squad depth. Therefore, I think this transfer is very good, securing a German international for Bayern for the next few years."

Although Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich have not yet finalized confirmation of the deal, according to Bild and Sky Germany, the transfer is expected to be sealed shortly. It is reported that the two clubs have agreed on a total transfer fee of €55 million. The only remaining question is how the bonus clauses included in this €55 million will flow to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The German national team star recently scored his first international goal in Germany's World Cup opener against Curaçao. Matthäus explained why his acquisition is very necessary, mainly due to Davies' high injury proneness: "Davies has been injured many times. In some matches where he was absent and other players who are not proficient in this position had to fill in, Bayern might have lacked this quality assurance.

"Brown can also play on the right, he has done so at Eintracht Frankfurt. But of course, the left is his best and golden position."

When this transfer will be officially announced is still undecided. According to Bild, Brown is expected to undergo a routine medical examination in the coming days, followed by the official confirmation of the transfer. The report indicates that a long-term contract until the summer of 2031 is currently being discussed, which would provide Bayern with long-term planning security.
