From a Parisian talent to a Bundesliga defender
Nsoki began his football career at US Roissy-en-Brie before moving to the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy in 2012. There he progressed through all the youth ranks and made his debut for the professional team in December 2017 in a league match against SM Caen. With PSG, Nsoki won two French championships, one cup, one league cup and one Super Cup, among other honours.
In search of regular playing time, Nsoki moved to league rivals OGC Nice in August 2019. After two years in Ligue 1, he took the next step in the summer of 2021 and signed for Belgian first division club Club Brugge. In his first season in Belgium - a year in which he established himself as a regular player and won the Belgian championship and Super Cup - he made 31 appearances in the league, three in the cup and six in the UEFA Champions League
A year later, Nsoki moved to Germany to join TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, having already played for Bruges in the first two league games of the new season. He made his Bundesliga debut away at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first game of the season, coming on as a substitute for Diadié Samassékou in the 24th minute.
Due to injury, Nsoki only made sporadic appearances in his debut season in the Bundesliga. However his goal for Hoffenheim at home against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, on 11 February 2023, was not only his first for his new club, but also his first as a professional footballer. Nsoki now comes to Berlin with 52 Bundesliga appearances under his belt.
Three facts about Stanley
His mother, who always placed great importance on exercise, encouraged him and his three sisters to take part in sporting activities. This is how he came to football via a club forum.
Nsoki grew up in Roissy-en-Brie, a commune in the Paris metropolitan area (Île-de-France), which is also known as the hometown of Paul Pogba.
In addition to football, he is also interested in basketball. During a holiday in Los Angeles, he attended an NBA game – particularly enjoying the show surrounding the game.
Reactions to the loan
“The club have a clear identity, fight with heart and conviction, and that's exactly what suits me,” said Nsoki on the completion of his loan deal with Union. “I feel the confidence here that I can contribute something with my style of play. For me, this is the right step to continue my development in a special environment and at the same time give everything for the success of the team,’ said centre-back Stanley Nsoki upon signing his contract.
Horst Heldt, managing director of professional football for men at 1. FC Union Berlin, commented on the loan: “Stanley brings not only international experience from top leagues but also exactly the qualities we appreciate at Union: he is strong in duels, focused, and versatile. Once he has recovered from his injury, he will make our defense more versatile.”
