Borussia Mönchengladbach have made the transfer of Julian Weigl from Benfica permanent. The 27-year-old has already been on loan from the Portuguese side for the 2022/23 season, but has now signed a contract with the Foals until 30th June 2028.
“Julian is an important building block in our team, not only because of his footballing ability, but also because his personality,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “He became a leader here from the very start and we’re delighted that he has committed to Borussia.”
Weigl himself added: “I’m really happy that we were able to reach an agreement. I’m very excited for what lies ahead and can’t wait to crack on.”
