Renato Sanches has lifted the lift on his disastrous loan spell at Swansea during the 2017/18 season and revealed he did not want to join the club in the first place.
After starring for Portugal in their triumphant Euro 2016 campaign Sanchez joined Bayern Munich in a £35million but having found chances limited in the Bundesliga, he was shipped out on loan to south Wales 12 months later.
The midfielder made just 15 appearances for the club as they endured a miserable campaign that ended in relegation from the Premier League with Paul Clement, the former Bayern Munich assistant coach who recruited Sanches, dismissed as Swans boss in December - 11 months after joining.
Sanches told L'Equipe: “It was not my choice to go to Swansea. I was forced to go there.
'I didn't want to go. I have respect for the club, the players, all the people I met there. I appreciated their humility
'They gave me everything, but I did not want to be there. The most difficult moment? When I was injured, I couldn't train.
'It was the descent; you can't feel the motivation any more.
'At the time, I no longer felt this strength.'
