Report: Former Chelsea forward Werner could make Premier League return

Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner could return to the Premier League next season, according to Calciomercato.

The 27-year-old returned to RB Leipzig last summer after two underwhelming seasons at Chelsea.

He still won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup in Chelsea colours, but in terms of output, he clearly did not meet the expectations.

However, it is good to see him regain his confidence back in Germany and register 10 goals and three assists in all competitions for Leipzig this season after failing to reach double-digit in goals at Chelsea.

That said, he could be a problem for Chelsea defenders next season as he could make an England return, Calciomercato claims.

The report does not mention the clubs, but it is said that several top clubs are looking to reinforce their attack this summer with Werner being a potential summer target.

It is very unlikely that Chelsea are among them, however.

Since Werner's departure, Chelsea have invested in several new attackers, including Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk.

The Germany international's Leipzig teammate, Christopher Nkunku, is even expected to be part of Graham Potter's first-team squad next season after a pre-agreement.

Instead of another deep-lying forward-type player, the Blues are more likely to be in the market for a natural number nine.

Recent reports suggested that, like many other top clubs, Chelsea are monitoring Napoli ace Victor Osimhen.
