Schlotterbeck to be seen more often as shooter after prepares 2 goals at corner

Nico Schlotterbeck took corner kicks for the first time at Borussia Dortmund – and he delivered like this. The German international provided two assists from set pieces in the home win over Mainz 05.

The BVB defender could be seen more often as a shooter at the corner flag in the future.

"We needed a left foot out - and Schlotti was the only one," joked Dortmund's double-goal scorer and match-winner Maximilian Beier on the DAZN microphone, but then added seriously: "We already knew he had a good left foot. You saw that again today."

Schlotterbeck provided two assists in BVB's 3-1 (2-0) victory over Mainz 05. Both Emre Can 's 2-0 goal (42nd minute) and Beier's 3-0 goal (72nd minute) were preceded by a corner kick taken by the DFB player.

"There were teammates who said: 'He's no Badstuber.' And then I said: 'You'll see.' We were looking for a left-footed shooter, and Schlotti, of course, has a really great left foot," said BVB coach Niko Kovac about Schlotterbeck.

It is not usual for "a central defender to take corners and free kicks, but you could see why we chose him today - not only today, but also in the future."

On Sunday evening, the central defender finally received praise from former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic . The 42-year-old compared his former protégé to David Beckham, commenting on the international's Instagram post with the word "Schlotterbeckham."
