Chelsea face Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, so we simulated the clash to try and predict the final score
Frank Lampard will make a return to the Chelsea dugout for the Blues' clash against Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Following the sacking of Graham Potter, Frank Lampard has been hired as Chelsea's interim manager until the rest of the season, and his first game in charge is against Wolves. Lampard was in charge of Chelsea between July 2019 and January 2021 before being sacked, and the Englishman has been out of management since suffering the same fate as Everton boss in January after one year with the Toffees.
The Blues enter the clash against Wolves without a win in three, their most recent result being a 0-0 draw against Liverpool. Sat 11th in the table, Lampard must lead Chelsea to some victories soon if they want a spot in Europe next season.
So, can Chelsea end their winless run on Saturday? Let's take a look.
To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.
We predict that Wolves could line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Sa; Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Bueno; Nunes, Lemina; Neto, Sarabia, Podence; Cunha.
We predict that the Blues could set up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Kepa; Fofana, Koulibaly, Badiashile; James, Kante, Fernandez, Chilwell; Mount, Felix; Havertz.
Despite sitting just one point above the relegation zone, Wolves were the team looking most dangerous in the first half, with Chelsea barely seeing the ball and being limited to shots from range. 27 minutes in, the hosts took a deserved lead through Matheus Nunes.
A one-two with Paolo Sarabia allowed Nunes to break past the Chelsea midfield and surge towards the box. After tapping the ball through the legs of Wesley Fofana, the midfielder let fly, and his effort powered over Kepa and into the net to make it 1-0.
Chelsea's best chance of the game came just after half-time when an error at the back allowed Kai Havertz to surge through on goal, but the striker had too much time if anything, and his effort was fired over the bar. The Blues lacked creativity in attack, and the task at hand became much harder when Lampard's side was reduced to 10 men.
Chelsea lost possession in their own half, allowing Wolves to hit them on the break. As Nunes skipped past Benoit Badiashile, the defender brought down the midfielder as the last man, resulting in a red card.
Chelsea couldn't find an equaliser, and they fell to a defeat on the road.
Here are the full-time match stats:
FIFA 23 predicts that Lampard could struggle on his return as Chelsea manager, losing 1-0 in the simulation. A lack of quality in their attacks saw the Blues limited to just five shots all game in a disappointing performance.

Lampard is stubborn as he will try to impress by playing four back. Three back is the most suitable formation for Chelsea but not 4:3:3. I'm not surprised that he lost the game.

Is Kai a striker or a force nine ?? Why always playing him up front while he’s not a striker… play auba or play Kai behind and use Felix or sterling as a false nine
