British newspaper The Guardian released its list of the 100 best footballers of the year.

The Guardian Sports has selected the 10 most outstanding footballers of the year, led by Ballon d’Or winner Rodri and Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. Notably, the top 10 includes an impressive presence of 10 Spaniards.

10. Kylian Mbappé

The French forward joined Real Madrid in the summer, ending years of speculation about his future at PSG. While the Real Madrid No. 9 has faced criticism for not posting staggering numbers this season, he has delivered critical goals, securing the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup titles for Los Blancos.

9. Dani Carvajal

The right-back enjoyed a historic year, clinching five trophies with Real Madrid and lifting the European Championship with Spain. Carvajal played a pivotal role in Spain’s qualification and triumph, establishing himself as a defensive stalwart. He also scored his first international goal in Spain’s victory against Croatia, further cementing his importance.

8. Florian Wirtz

The German midfielder had an exceptional season with Bayer Leverkusen, playing a key role in a record-breaking campaign under Xabi Alonso. Wirtz was instrumental in securing the German Super Cup, the German Cup, and the Bundesliga title. His 11 goals contributed significantly to Leverkusen’s unbeaten run.

7. Lautaro Martínez

Inter Milan’s captain and centre-forward had a phenomenal year, earning recognition as the club’s best player of the season. Martínez led his team to victories in the Italian Super Cup, Serie A, and the Copa América. He also emerged as the top scorer in both the league (24 goals) and the Copa América (5 goals).

6. Harry Kane

The England captain and Bayern Munich striker continued his prolific form, netting 44 goals in 45 games for the German club. Kane also set a record by reaching 50 goals in the fewest number of matches. His stellar performances extended to the international stage, leading England to the Euros final and demonstrating his endless quality.

5. Jude Bellingham

The English midfielder seamlessly adapted to Carlo Ancelotti’s system at Real Madrid. While his scoring streak has slowed compared to his debut season, Bellingham has remained a key orchestrator of Madrid’s game in defence and attack. He also excelled with England, helping the team finish as runners-up in the Euros.

4. Lamine Yamal

The 17-year-old Spanish prodigy has shown extraordinary talent both at La Masia and on the international stage. The winger played a significant role in Spain’s Euros victory, scoring his first goal in a major tournament. Although Barcelona did not secure any titles this year, his place among the elite is undeniable.

3. Erling Haaland

The Norwegian striker continues to shatter scoring records. While his numbers this season have fallen short of previous highs, Haaland still leads the Premier League scoring charts. Despite Manchester City’s struggles, he has taken on the responsibility of driving the team forward.

2. Vinícius Júnior

The Brazilian winger was a top contender for the Ballon d’Or, ultimately claimed by Rodri. However, he was recognised by FIFA as The Best. Vinícius played a vital role in all of Real Madrid’s title wins this year. His only shortfall was an underwhelming performance with Brazil at the international level.

1. Rodri

The Spanish midfielder was the cornerstone of Manchester City’s historic season, contributing to their dominance in domestic and international competitions. He also played a crucial role in Spain’s European Championship triumph. Although his Ballon d’Or win sparked debates over Vinícius’s merits, Rodri’s superlative performances silenced any doubts about his place at the pinnacle of world football.
