Coronavirus cut short the seasons of their lives: Stats leaders in Europe so far

The coronavirus pandemic has put a stop to the 2019/20 season across Europe.

Clubs like Liverpool face an agonising wait to find out whether their successes so far this campaign have been worth it.

It's the same for players too, whether you're Jadon Sancho or Aitor Fernandez. Some of them were having the seasons of their lives.

Ciro Immobile's Golden Boot

The Italian striker leads the way in the goalscoring charts across Europe with 27 goals in Serie A this season.

The Lazio man is set to pick up his third Golden Boot in Italy having won it in 2013/14 and 2017/18 but whether he takes the continental award remains to be seen.

Double figures

Erling Haaland's 40 goals aren't the only impressive statistics at Borussia Dortmund.

Not only does Jadon Sancho have 14 goals in the Bundesliga but 15 assists too - that's the same total of goals and assists as Lionel Messi (19 goals and 12 assists) in LaLiga Santander.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi has also amassed double figures for assists with 10 in all competitions, as well as seven goals from full-back.

Assist kings

Sancho's tally of 15 assists in the Bundesliga is better by just two players in Europe - Kevin de Bruyne and Thomas Muller, who are both on 16 this season.

"He sees passes that a normal human can't spot. He has special vision," Pep Guardiola said of De Bruyne, who also leads the way in chances created (96) in Europe's major leagues.

Creativity from the wings

Trent Alexander-Arnold broke the record for most assists in a single Premier League season as a defender last season, and he's equalled that record of 12 this year too.

On top of that, he's put more crosses into the box than any other player in Europe this season with 314.

Top dribblers

Wilfried Zaha has attempted more dribbles than any other player this season, but Adama Traore has completed more with 144.

The winger's performances for Wolves this season have seen him earn a call-up to the Spanish national team.

Stopping and supplying

No player in Europe has attempted or completed as many passes as Virgil van Dijk this season.

In his 2,610 minutes in the Premier League, he's completed 2,209 of his 2,474 attempted passes.

The Dutchman is also the top scorer of headed goals in Europe with four.

New names in the goalkeeping department

Thibaut Courtois and David Soria lead the way in clean sheets but it's Aitor Fernandez who has saved the most shots (126) out of any goalkeeper in Europe.
