There is no doubt that Atletico Madrid's decision to sign Nikola Kalinic two summers ago has not paid off, with club set to accept a loss on the striker.
Los Colchoneros have set an asking price of 3.5 million euros for Kalinic, with his departure set to rid themselves of his wages, too.
Besiktas are in negotiations with Atletico but have thus far not met the aforementioned price, yet they have reached an agreement with Kalinic for a three-year contract worth three million euros per year.
The 32-year-old only has one year left on his contract at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano and, as such, both the player and Besiktas are trying to put pressure on Atletico to allow him to leave for practically no fee.
It should be remembered that Atletico bought Kalinic from AC Milan for 12 million euros in the summer of 2018, but it didn't take long for this to be seen as a mistake.
In fact, he was already considering his departure after just six months, but his professionalism ended up convincing Diego Simeone to keep him around.
Kalinic ended that campaign with two goals from a total of 17 games, which was followed by a loan move to Roma for two million euros and an option to buy for nine million euros.
The Giallorossi opted not to execute this option, after the striker scored five goals in 19 appearances.
Now that it is clear that Atletico will not recoup the fee they paid for Kalinic, they want to get at least something in return.
