Arsenal news: The Gunners have a last chance to prepare for the new season ahead of the Community Shield and Mikel Arteta still has a group of key players missing.
Arsenal are back home and ready to face their final week of preparation before the Premier League gets underway. On hallowed turf once more, their Emirates Cup match against Monaco on Wednesday is the first chance for most fans to catch a glimpse of their new signings.
Havertz scored his first goal for the club in a 5-3 win over Barcelona whilst Rice was at the heart of midfield against Manchester United. He remains somewhat of a doubt for this game having not featured in the last match though.
"Dec had quite a strong kick in training so we didn’t want to take the risk," Mikel Arteta said last week in America. "He wasn’t really comfortable training yesterday and we decided not to train."
Without an update on Rice at this stage its unknown if he is fit enough to play. There is also the case that he could be saved for the Community Shield clash with Manchester City on Sunday as preparations take another step up in intensity.
Elsewhere, Oleksandr Zinchenko is a doubt having missed all of pre-season so far. "Alex [Zinchenko] had a little muscular issue, unfortunately," Arteta explained in USA. "I think he will be back soon but it’s a shame he hasn’t been with us the whole tour."
This could be too soon for him to get meaningful minutes but may also pose as a perfect chance to get back out onto the pitch as he attempts to build match sharpness.
There are also question marks over Folarin Balogun. The 22-year-old was absent from the final pre-season game stateside after being forced to train separately with a fitness issue stunting his work. "He was unavailable," Arteta said afterwards.
There isn't a clear path into the team either. Arteta admitted: "We will see [how he can get back into contention]. First of all, he needs to be fit and play minutes."
Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard are in place to play once more though having kicked on throughout the summer with exit rumours and physical setbacks stalling them in the early stages. Reiss Nelson is also recovering having been sent back from America with a foot laceration.
Although it is not expected to be too serious, this game could come too early for him. Mohamed Elneny is out, however, and still hasn't played since January. Meanwhile Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nicolas Pepe, Cedric Soares and Nuno Tavares were all back at London Colney during the tour and aren't expected to feature.
Matt Turner could return having not joined up with the squad in pre-season after an extended holiday due to extra USMNT commitments. He is in the process of departing the club with Nottingham Forest interested. He was back in training with the Gunners, as was Rice. There was no sign of Balogun or Zinchenko.
This all leaves Arteta with a depleted squad to work with but plenty of depth in numbers still remain. Here is a likely squad Arsenal have for the game.
Goalkeepers: Aaron Ramsdale, Runar Alex Runarsson, Karl Hein
Defenders: Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Kieran Tierney, Ben White, Jakub Kiwior, Rob Holding
Midfielders: Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Leandro Trossard, Fabio Vieira, Jorginho Amario Cozier-Duberry
Attackers: Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Emile Smith Rowe, Marquinhos
What do you think? Should Arsenal be looking to sell Folarin Balogun this summer?

I don't see any clear reason why arteta won't give balogun a chance, it must be some attitude problem cause he is way better than nketiah
