Paolo Maldini could be heading for the exit door just a year after becoming the technical director of Milan.
According to Tuesday's edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive), the draw against Fiorentina on Saturday night has once again complicated things regarding the future, with the club set for 'serious summer reflections'.
The main problem is that there are currently two lines of thought among the leadership, something Maldini hinted at after the gamea. On one side is Ivan Gazidis and his closest collaborators, on the other is Maldini with Zvonimir Boban and Frederic Massara.
The two sides have opposing positions especially on the market and on how to bring the club back to the Champions League as soon as possible, with an idea of timing that just isn't compatible.
The diversity of views is so evident that it could lead to separation this summer. The management trio hope to be able to accelerate the growth of Milan, with a market centered around adding much-needed experience, but Gazidis wants to focus on young players and cost-cutting.
There is no agreement about the next coach either. Maldini has twice denied links with Ralf Rangnick who, according to him, is 'not the right profile' for Milan. But for Gazidis and his team, however, the German manager could be an ideal solution to replace Stefano Pioli.
It is clear that if in the end he were to join the Rossoneri, Maldini's farewell would be inevitable at that point.
