Man United's Pellistri will hold crunch talks about his future at the club

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri will hold talks over his immediate future at Old Trafford after making his debut in Tuesday's 3-0 League Cup win over Charlton.

Pellistri - a Uruguayan international - had to wait over two years to get minutes as a first-team player having joined the club in 2020 from professional side Penarol in his homeland.

The relatively unknown winger enjoyed two reasonably successful loan spells at LaLiga side Deportivo Alaves, before impressing United boss Erik ten Hag enough to be kept at the club for the current season.

However, despite bagging an assist on his first competitive senior appearance for the club as he aided Marcus Rashford to another Old Trafford goal, Pellistri could find himself voluntarily heading for the club's exit door.

The January transfer window has presented the 21-year-old with an opportunity to gain regular minutes elsewhere with recognised interest coming from English and Spanish sides.

A meeting has been scheduled over the coming days between Pellistri, his representatives, and United team manager Ten Hag to discuss the player's future at the club and determine whether another loan move may be of benefit.

Ten Hag has previously been reluctant to allow the South American to leave the club despite Pellistri being viewed by supporters as a constant benchwarmer, with his chances of getting selected over others playing in his position appearing slim.

LaLiga outfit Valencia have been tracking Pellistri's performances for United's under-21 team and have enquired about the possibility of a loan deal until the end of the season.

English Championship side Watford have also lodged an official enquiry to take the star on loan, however Pellistri isn't keen on dropping down a division.

The youthful attacker is well-liked by his United teammates, many of whom rushed to congratulate him on Instagram after making his debut, and is viewed by Ten Hag as a brilliant trainer.

Therefore the option of him staying at the club after the January transfer window is another alternative that will also be discussed at the upcoming meeting.
