Manchester United are 19 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool following their 3-1 defeat at the bitter rivals on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking post-match at Anfield as a pundit, United legend Roy Keane hit out at the current squad - claiming some of the players are not worthy of playing for the side.
'I certainly believe some of the players for United are not good enough,' Keane told Sky Sports.' They are so far behind [Manchester] City and Liverpool.'
Reflecting on Keane's scathing criticism, Sportsmail reviews United's main core of players to have featured this season so far...
GOALKEEPERS
David de Gea - 7
Has been below his usual world-class standards at times with some costly errors (for example, most recently Shkodran Mustafi's goal in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal). However, the Spaniard is playing in front of a revolving door in terms of a defensive unit causing a lack of stability to build upon.
Sergio Romero - 3.5
United's back-up has played two games which have both ended in defeats. The Champions League loss at Valencia was an overall poor team display but his red card against Derby contributed heavily to United's surprising third-round League Cup exit.
DEFENDERS
Victor Lindelof - 5.5
His second season at United has been an improvement on his first - with Jose Mourinho deploying him at centre back when fit. Still prone to costly lapses in concentration and ball watching but has shown some promise.
Eric Bailly - 5
United's best centre back hasn't played at all like that this season. Was part of Mourinho's initial first-choice centre-back pairing, with Lindelof, but was soon exiled. His rashness has been exposed, with positional awareness needing improvement, but when he's on his game he is a tough customer.
Phil Jones - 3
His season is best summed up by his display at Valencia last week - a calamitous own goal which sparked ridicule on social media.
Chris Smalling - 6
Gets a lot of criticism, but has been United's most reliable defender this season - in one which has already been largely forgettable.
Marcos Rojo - 3.5
Injury-prone Argentine has featured just three times so far for the Red Devils. His first game of the season came against Arsenal earlier this month - where his mistake led to him scoring an own goal.
Ashley Young - 5.5
Like his team-mates, his individual performances have been a marked drop on last season - a campaign which saw him start for England at the World Cup. Featured 16 times in all competitions but has been exposed at times - Sadio Mane proving that for his goal on Sunday.
Diogo Dalot - 5.5
The teenager has made just six appearances due to injury, but already looks a promising signing for the club at right back. For one, he can cross the ball.
Luke Shaw - 6
The 23-year-old has comes through years of adversity under Mourinho to finally be utilised. Started the season with the winner against Leicester and his form has seen him been recalled to the England squad already.
Antonio Valencia - 4
The Ecuadorian's days at United looked numbered. A trusted Mourinho lieutenant, that relationship appears broken after he liked a post on social media in October calling for the former to be sacked as United manager.
Matteo Darmian - 4.5
Wants to go back to Italy after being given little playing time in recent seasons but when called upon has been dependable - if nothing else.
MIDFIELDERS
Paul Pogba - 4.5
The enigma. If one player sums up United then it's Paul Pogba. A vastly talented player who hasn't lived up to expectations. His relationship with Mourinho is well documented and the fact he didn't come on against Liverpool just further underlines the fact that at least one will leave the club this summer. Can be a game-changer (see September's 3-0 win at Young Boys) but not always for the better (see September's 1-1 draw with Wolves).
Juan Mata - 6.5
Out of the club's midfield options, he's the only player - with the exception of an on-form Pogba, that slows down a game to play the right ball. Such a clever player, the Spaniard has scored two pivotal free-kicks in wins against Newcastle and Juventus this season.
Jesse Lingard - 6
Turned 26 on Saturday, the academy product has been as productive as he would like - a systematic problem with this current side. However, is always full of running but his tendency to drift infield when used on the right-hand side does hinder the team.
Andreas Pereira - 4.5
Has lost favour with Mourinho ever since the 3-2 league defeat at Brighton in the second game of the season.
Fred - 4.5
Like his compatriot Pereira, the Brazilian has almost been the forgotten man at the club. Bought for £52million in the summer, it's still unclear what his best attribute is.
Ander Herrera - 5
One of the few players at the club appearing to show some fight. Horribly exposed out of position at centre back in August's 3-0 home league defeat by Tottenham but showing his tenacity now back in central midfield.
Marouane Fellaini - 5
Ridiculed as his style goes against United tradition, but the big Belgian is always effective when selected - scoring the Champions League winner against Young Boys last month and changing the game in their 2-1 win at Juventus. His lack of technical ability does hinder the team in midfield though - as highlighted by his wayward passing at Anfield.
Nemanja Matic - 4
A virtual ever-present for Mourinho, the Serb has looked off the boil in midfield. The 30-year-old has been pedestrian in and out of possession - highlighting United's lack of dynamism in midfield when compared to their rivals.
Scott McTominay - 4.5
The 22-year-old has started just three games this season - and none he will look back on fondly. He's been played out of position at centre back twice (in a 3-1 defeat at West Ham and a 2-2 draw at Southampton), with the other seeing him hooked at half-time as United trailed 2-0 against Newcastle - a game they eventually won 3-2.
FORWARDS
Alexis Sanchez - 2
This signing didn't seem a natural fit in January and 12 months on that continues to prove the case. The club's highest earner, who is currently out injured, has one goal in 12 games but was repeatedly being shoe-horned in the team at the expense of others.
Romelu Lukaku - 3.5
Will the real Romelu Lukaku please stand up? Six goals in 22 games is a paltry return for someone playing as the main centre forward at United but his overall play has been less than desirable too. He recently admitted to being too bulky and the team have looked better without him this season - with the more dynamic Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Lingard taking the forward berths.
Marcus Rashford - 6.5
The 21-year-old has four goals in 20 games for United this season, despite playing largely out of position on the wing. Always full of running and energy - the one major personal blotch was his red card in September's 2-0 win at Burnley.
Anthony Martial - 6.5
The fan favourite has been United's main source of goals - with eight strikes in 19 games in all competitions. The Frenchman's efforts have been largely decisive too - contributing to league wins against Newcastle, Everton and Bournemouth as well as draws against Chelsea and Arsenal.
MANAGER
Jose Mourinho - 2
Convoluted tactics, constant changing of players, abject results and an apparent disjointed dressing room. Oh, and after 17 league games a goal difference of zero with 29 goals conceded - one more than the entirety of the previous season.
Third-season syndrome is in full effect with Mourinho. Known as the 'Special One' it will take something truly that to overturn this forgettable campaign.

Manchester United's problems started when SAF left the club, and ever since then,Manchester United's hierarchy hasn't deemed necessary to rebuild the team's squad.. change some of their technical board members;-some of the board members has run out of ideas;-old enough.. not to continue with their roles in the management of some of their football's technical activities due to old age;-downwards syndrome.. Manchester United needs a total overhaul, from board members, football administrators, the coaching crews, the players who are sumptuously for the sake of playing and delivering the desired results when needed most.. GGMU....some of these highly paid professionals should know that they signed and indeed paid heavily for the results expected to get from them..
