Kalvin Phillips is seeking guarantees over his playing time before he makes any move away from Manchester City.
The midfielder moved to the Etihad last summer from Leeds but has struggled for game time throughout and is now seeking a move away, be that permanently or on loan. Newcastle and Juventus are the two sides currently leading the queue to sign the England international.
Phillips though is desperate to avoid another stint warming the bench and wants assurances over how much he'll play should he seek pastures new. The Telegraph reports that may work in the Italian side's favour as they are without the likes of Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli.
Newcastle, whilst losing Sandro Tonali to a lengthy gambling ban, have Bruno Guimares and Joelinton as options in the middle of the park which could limit Phillip's minutes. Whilst a St James' Park switch is more practical, a move to Turin may lead to more game time.
Phillips has sat behind Rodri for much of his City career. The Spaniard is regarded as one of the world's best in his position and Pep Guardiola has regularly picked him ahead of Phillips. The Catalan recently apologised for the lack of minutes he's given the former Leeds man, but conceded he struggles to see a spot in the XI for him.
He said: "I don't know what's going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I've said that many times. He doesn't deserve what has happened to him and I'm so sorry. The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example.
"And after that, I have to give him something and I didn't do that. It's just because I visualise some things and visualise the team and things - and I struggle to see him. I'm not very pleased [with myself] and I am so sorry for him. I will not say that [to him] because it is a business and I have to be a professional."
Phillips knows that he must get regular time on the pitch to ensure his spot in the England squad for this summer's Euros. He has previously been a regular and has remained in Gareth Southgate's squad despite his lack of minutes, but knows that cannot continue.

Somehow Phillips does not fit with the style of football that ManC play, he is a very good defensive midfielder, maybe a loan spell to European club will be best for him or transfer to Newcastle
