Fernando Torres wrote a touching message to his childhood friend, Andres Iniesta, after the pair came up against each other once more - but this time in the Japanese League.

The pair have both moved to Japan after reaching the twilight of their careers, having started out in Spain's youth side together at the age of just 15.

Torres is now playing for Sagan Tosu, who beat Iniesta's Vissel Kobe 3-0 in the Emperor's Cup on Wednesday, although he started the match on the bench.

Posting a photo of the pair reunited in Japan, Torres said: 'Football leaves you these good moments, we started playing together at 15 years old in the national team,' it read.

'We have shared some of the best moments in our careers and today we return to see each other in Japan. Always a pleasure to see you my friend, Andres Iniesta'.

The pair both ended their time in Spain at the end of last season, with their respective sides both claiming trophies in a fitting send off for two icons of Spanish, if not world, football.

Iniesta, who had spent his entire career with Barcelona until this year, won yet another La Liga title, taking his tally to nine, as well as a sixth Copa del Rey.

Torres who returned to his boyhood club, Atletico Madrid, following spells with Liverpool, Chelsea and Milan, won the Europa League to round off a memorable send off.

He also shared an image of the pair of them lifting trophies at the end of last season alongside themselves as children in their respective clubs' kits.
