Premier League giants Tottenham have reportedly failed to secure the signing of Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.

Spurs had hoped to complete a last minute deal with the sign the 28-year-old - who returned to Spain in 2020 after a spell in China with Dalian Professional.

However, Atletico have told Tottenham that they are reluctant to let the winger go this late in the January transfer window given he is contracted until 2024.

Carrasco had a £50m release clause in his contract, but that is said to have expired in the last couple of days.

Therefore, Antonio Conte's side approached Atletico over a potential deal for their winger.

However, the LaLiga giants rejected their advances as they believe the Premier League left it too late in the January window to discuss a deal.

This not the first time a club has made an attempt to buy Carrasco on the final day of a transfer window.

Carrasco was the subject of interest from Arsenal and Crystal Palace on deadline day in January 2019. However, the deal fell through.

Nevertheless, Tottenham could be in with a chance of signing Carrasco during the summer window, according to ESPN.

Carrasco currently in his second spell at Atletico Madrid - having previously played for Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional.

is currently in his second spell at Atletico Madrid, having rejoined the Spanish giants in 2020 from Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional.

He has enjoyed great success during his time in Spain - winning the LaLiga title with the club last season.

However, he has struggled to perform this season, having only scored twice in 29 appearances in all competitions.

Nevertheless, Tottenham felt he could have been a good addition to their squad for the remainder of the 2021-2022 campaign.
