Espanyol will host Barcelona in this Saturday night's Catalan derby and coaches Rubi and Ernesto Valverde will be doing all they can to ensure the rival team loses, but it wasn't always this way.
Both tacticians have previously been employed by the club they'll be setting out to defeat at the RCDE Stadium.
As well as playing for Espanyol between 1986 and 1988, he coached them from 2006 to 2008.
He reached two UEFA Cup finals with Los Periquitos and heartbreakingly lost both on penalties, against Bayer Leverkusen in 1988 as a player and against Sevilla in 2007 as coach.
Rubi, on the other hand, joined Tito Vilanova's coaching staff after doing a great job with Girona and was even mentioned as a candidate to take over when Vilanova had to step down due to his illness, only for Sandro Rosell to opt for Tata Martino.
The two coaches have great respect for each other and their paths actually crossed when Valverde was in charge of the Espanyol first team at the same time as Rubi coached Espanyol B.
