David De Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until at least June 2023. There is an option to extend for a further year.
De Gea sealed a new deal yesterday worth about £375,000 a week. The goalkeeper is now contracted until the summer of 2023, but should the club exercise their option to extend his stay by a further 12 months, De Gea will stand to earn about £93.75 million.
He is now the best-paid goalkeeper in football, with his wage significantly above that of Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid, and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga. It also puts De Gea close to United’s top earner Alexis Sánchez, although Inter Milan are now paying the majority of his £391,000 per week wage during his loan spell.
That De Gea has committed his future to United will come as a relief to Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the United manager. Talks between De Gea’s representatives and the club dragged on for over two years and he could have joined one of his many suitors, such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Juventus, on a free transfer in July if he had not agreed a new deal with United.

I agree we're overpaying our players but really, De Gea is the only player that deserves this sum of money, after saving your team for 5+ seasons, he deserves it, his errors could've been because of his contract situation but as we saw against Leicester he was a beast, most probably because his mind was made up already, now we start afresh and see what he brings us #DaveStays
