‘They’re bantering us off the face of the earth’ moan MU fans

MANCHESTER UNITED fans were left red-faced after their side were "slapped by the fish".

Grimsby Town dumped the six-time League Cup champions out of the tournament on Wednesday night in one of the biggest upsets of all time.

The League Two Mariners held on after surrendering their two-goal lead in normal time to stun their illustrious rivals in an incredible 12-11 penalty shootout win.

It was Man Utd's £71million summer arrival Bryan Mbeumo, with his second spot-kick of the epic shootout, who hit the bar to hand Grimsby their miracle win.

Cue wild scenes inside Blundell Park as supporters invaded the pitch to celebrate with their heroes.

Football fans across the county were loving it too, with hundreds Everton and Mansfield supporters filmed watching the shootout on TV through a pub window after their own clash.

And the Grimsby social media team clearly let themselves get carried away too.

They shared a hilarious picture of a banner with the words "You've just been slapped by the fish".

The caption was joined by a photoshopped fish on top of a black and white striped flag.

The post has been inspired by the viral chicken version that has been spammed by Bradford fans all season.

Even United fans admitted that they are being "bantered off the face of the Earth."

One posted: "Yeah fair enough Grimsby, fair enough."

A second wrote: "We deserve that."

Another commented: "This is just humiliating."

A fourth said: "Grimsby Town just turned Man United into Man Un-fried."

While one concluded: "They are bantering us off the face of the Earth now."

It was arguably United's biggest upset since the 1995/96 season when they were beaten by York City.

The Minstermen beat Sir Alex Ferguson's team, which consisted of the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Lee Sharpe.

York romped to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to two goals from Harvey Barnes' dad Paul and one from Tony Barras.

Grimsby have been rewarded with another big game in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
