“What is that?” Man City fans taken aback in the Champions League

Pep Guardiola’s team needed a big result in the final day of the Champions League opening stage, but the fans were also talking about something else.

“What on earth is that,” said soccer fan Fin McDonald, as he watched Manchester City fall a goal behind to Club Brugge on the final day of the opening stage of the Champions League.

But he wasn’t talking about City’s woeful defending to Brugge’s counter, which say Onyedkia put the Belgian side in front and seriously damage Guardiola’s side’s chances of moving on to the next stage of European soccer’s top tournament. He was talking about the font on the back of City’s shirts, which some have described as “basically Comic Sans.”

What is Manchester City’s 2024/2025 font

The handwritten names and numbers on the back of City’s shirts are in fact from none other than Oasis lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher, who of course is also a massive City fan.

The font is only used for the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, with it not being used in the Premier League.

As Man City explain: “Manchester music legend and lifelong City fan Noel Gallagher designed the font for Manchester City’s 2024/25 shirts. His handwriting features on the back of the team’s shirts in all Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup matches. The ‘Definitely City’ jersey is exclusively worn in Champions League matches and will not available with Premier League printing or badge. Get your shirt personalised with your favourite player and make it unique by adding the official UEFA Champions League badge on the sleeve.”
