5 players facing Tottenham axe this summer after Jose Mourinho's furious rant

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho launched into a public rant after his side crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night, with big changes expected in north London this summer.

Spurs suffered an embarrassing second-leg collapse against Dinamo Zagreb - who just days prior had seen their manager sentenced to ten years in jail for fraud.

Tottenham carried a 2-0 lead into the return leg, which was played out in Croatia.

But after a second-half disasterclass, they were beaten in extra time thanks to a Mislav Orsic hat-trick.

Mourinho tore into his players after the game and criticised their attitude, saying he gave them all the tools required to get the job done.

Mirror Football has taken a look at five players Mourinho could offload this summer.

Dele Alli

Creative midfielder Dele Alli looks set to be on his way out of north London this summer if Mourinho stays.

The 24-year-old hasn't seen eye to eye with the manager this season and has been restricted to just 22 appearances across all competitions as a result.

He was hooked off after the hour mark against Zagreb, and was close to leaving in January only for Spurs to fail to find a replacement.

Reports suggest Mourinho will be fired if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, and his departure could be Alli's only way back.

Danny Rose

Danny Rose has been completely cast aside by Mourinho this season, and his stock has fallen through the floor as a result.

Once considered an outside shout for the England squad, he is now set to leave Tottenham on a free at the end of his contract.

Much was made of his lofty ambitions prior to his loan move to Newcastle in 2020, but since returning he's failed to break into the first-team side and was completely left out of the squad this season.

He is fully expected to walk away from the club at the end of his contract this summer, having played just twice for the under-23 team in the current campaign.

Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris gave a rare scathing post-match interview following Spurs' elimination from the Europa League, and used the opportunity to tear into the club.

The club captain hinted at a fractured dressing room by saying: "We have a lack of basics and lack of fundamentals."

Lloris branded the defeat a disgrace and risked the wrath of the manager in doing so.

With Spurs lining up an ambitious move for Dean Henderson, and with Lloris himself wanted by Paris Saint-Germain, the time may well have come for the two parties to cut ties.

Considering he is out of contract in 2022, Spurs will have to sell this summer in order to get any sort of fee back for the 34-year-old.

Harry Winks

Central midfielder Harry Winks is facing a long road back at Tottenham.

The 25-year-old is under contract until 2025, but is currently quite a way down the pecking order for the two midfield slots.

Tanguy Ndombele's impressive season, coupled with Mourinho's love for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, has made it tough for Winks to break through into the squad.

He's got just seven Premier League starts to show for his league season, and has failed to grab Mourinho's attention in any.

Winks has been given more game time in Europe, but was unimpressive in his 68-minute display against Zagreb.

Gareth Bale

On-loan winger Gareth Bale is in a difficult situation at the moment.

Having joined on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, he took time to get re-adjusted to life in the Premier League and seemed to lose Mourinho's faith.

But in recent months he's played himself back into top form, and now has an impressive five goals and two assists from just 12 Premier League appearances.

However, as the expiration of his loan fast approaches he's had two poor performances in a row, and could well be returned to Madrid to see out the rest of his £600,000-per-week contract.
