Bologna boss Thiago Motta has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to take over at PSG.
Despite winning the league during his first campaign in charge of Les Parisiens, Christophe Galtier will not take charge of the club next season.
With success in Europe still eluding the French giants, PSG have taken their search for a new boss across the continent.
Julian Nagelsmann has long been considered one of the club's primary options, with the 35-year-old reportedly having been set to be joined by Thierry Henry in the dugout at the Parc des Princes.
However, discussions between the two parties are said to have collapsed, with the club now turning to a move for Motta.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, Bologna are increasingly expectant that Motta will depart the club in order to take over in Paris.
Motta has already met with PSG chiefs to discuss the possibility of taking over the club, and a second meeting is reportedly scheduled for later this week.
The Brazil-born Italy international made over 230 appearances during a seven-year stint in the French capital, winning five league titles with the club before hanging up his boots in 2018.
Following his retirement Motta went on to take charge of the PSG U19 side before departing shortly after to take the reins at Serie A side Genoa.
After successive spells battling relegation in the Italian top flight, first with Il Grifone and then Spezia, Motta was appointed head coach of Bologna in September.
With the side narrowly outside the drop zone upon his arrival, Motta recovered a poor early spell to lead the team to their best top flight finish in over a decade.
But Motta isn't the only midfielder-turned-manager that PSG are said to have their eye on.
Reports from France claim PSG director Luis Campos held talks with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta in a bid to lure the Spaniard to Ligue 1.
However, the club's audacious attempt looks set to be unsuccessful, with the 41-year-old said to be intent on continuing to build on his success with the Gunners in the Premier League next season.
