Liverpool star Alisson could miss massive clashes with Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen after being ruled out for over a month.
The Brazilian goalkeeper was withdrawn in the recent 1-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park with a suspected hamstring injury. And Liverpool boss Arne Slot was not optimistic of him returning any time soon.
Speaking to Match of the Day, the Dutchman said: "With Alisson it is clear he will be out for maybe a few weeks.” He added: "If a player walks off like he does, that normally means he's not in the Brazil squad, and I don't expect him to be in the first game afterwards. It'll take a few weeks I assume."
And it appears that the Liverpool boss’ worst fears have been realised. The Reds’ number one will be missing until at least the November international break.
That will see Alisson miss seven games in all for the side which includes a clash with Chelsea after the current international fortnight. Liverpool then take on RB Leipzig in their third Champions League group game.
It then does not get any easier for Liverpool as they take on title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on October 27. A Carabao Cup clash with Brighton is their next assignment ahead of a Premier League rematch with the Seagulls.
Another difficult Champions League test awaits for them after that in the form of a showdown with German champions Bayer Leverkusen on November 5. The Reds’ tough run comes to an end with a home clash with Aston Villa.
Despite being without Alisson, Slot insists Liverpool will cope. He said: "Alisson is our clear No. 1, the best goalkeeper in the world so it's a blow when he gets injured for himself and the team.
"We have a second option that's already good. Caoimhin [Kelleher] has already shown that, which is why Caoimhín is the No. 2 and the last time, Alisson was injured, I played Caoimhin. He did really well, it's pleasing to see that our third goalkeeper can have an impact on results as Caoimhin was ill yesterday and today."
Kelleher has made two appearances for Liverpool so far this season - against Bournemouth in the Premier League and during the 5-1 League Cup win against West Ham. The Irishman made 26 appearances for Liverpool last term and kept five clean sheets.
Away from Alisson, Liverpool could also be without Alexis Mac Allister once they return. Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa are still attempting to overcome their own issues.
