A former Premier League and England U21 player has reportedly been banned from pharmacies for using fake prescriptions to obtain sleeping pills.
According to The Sun, the player in question used a letter that contained the name and details from a real surgery in Bournemouth in order to obtain zopiclone.
The outlet claim that the ex-professional became aggressive with staff members when told that his prescription was fake and fled before police were called.
A source reportedly said: 'There was a horrible set-to when he was refused his sleeping pills. The staff felt they were in danger.
'An alert was written to warn other pharmacies. He went on to try virtually every other chemist in South London.'
The player in question is, supposedly, one of 78 football stars that are known to be seeking help for addictions to drugs or alcohol.
Zopiclone is a type of sleeping pill that can be taken for short-term treatment of severe insomnia. It aids the user in falling asleep quickly and also helps stop them waking up during the night.
It can only be obtained via prescription and comes in the form of tablets or as a liquid for people who find it hard to swallow tablets.
