A group of Liverpool fans were attacked in Naples last night, in what is described as an “unmotivated” attack.
A group of English fans were set upon while walking in Via Ceare Rossarol, and one was taken to hospital.
Il Mattino has reported that groups of young, hardline Napoli fans have been traversing the city in pairs and on scooters looking to fight ‘hooligans’.
There is no suggestion that the fans attacked last night were involved in any wrongdoing.
“The incident last night was completely unprompted and unmotivated,” chief of police Antonio De Iesu said on Radio Crc.
“These events don’t reflect well on the city, we’ve made appeals to the fans but obviously they don’t get through to the younger groups.
“These are actions which have nothing to do with football. The men of DIGOS [special operations] have been carefully observing the city, and in fact have identified 28 men of various fan groups.”
Manchester City fans faced similar problems when they played Napoli last year, with a Neapolitan waiter stepping in to protect visiting fans and sustaining a broken nose.

So just by beating us and harassing us what are they going to achieve we Liverpool fans are never like that and we would never do this whether we lose or win............. This is very shameful indeed and this is not the way football should be played...........Don't lose yourself Napoli fans try to be composed as the match has yet not started and result is also not yet known ..................... This should not happen in football .......... No issues fans you will never walk alone and we would prove them by winning the match............
