A clever compilation video has posted on social media, showing different footballers choosing who they prefer between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

It's a debate that has raged through football for well over decade, as the two players took levels to new heights and are widely thought of as two of the greatest to ever play the game.

At their peak, the two traded goals and trophies as talisman's for both Barcelona and Real Madrid and share an incredible 13 Ballon d'Or awards between them, as well as nine Champions League wins.

However, the question of which one is better has been a perennial dilemma for football players and fans alike.

One social media account has attempted to put the matter to rest, by collating a series of clips of famous footballing faces being asked who they prefer out of Messi and Ronaldo and totting up the answers.

Across the two minute clip, there are thirty-four different footballers, who over the years have been asked to lay their hat on one side of the game's biggest player debate - and the results make for interesting viewing.

Among the names included in the video are Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and more, and the scores on the doors lie heavily in the Argentine's favour.

In fact it's a resounding victory for Messi, with thirty of the thirty-four players choosing the Inter Miami man ahead of the Portuguese icon.

Ronaldo's solitary four votes come from Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Ruben Neves.

Meaning all of the players who plumped for the Al-Nassr man, were those who have previously played with the forward at either club or international level.

Other names featured in the reel include Cole Palmer, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr and Declan Rice, who all choose Lionel Messi above his long-term rival.

Many cited Messi's World Cup win as one of the reasons behind him being above Ronaldo, while others such as Virgil van Dijk and Gerard Pique simply labelled him the greatest of all time without considering CR7.

Ronaldo is currently leading the goal-scoring charts in the Saudi Pro League, with 29 goals, but his team trail leaders Al-Hilal by twelve points in the title race.

Meanwhile Messi has begun his first full season in the MLS by scoring six goals in the first six games, with Miami two points behind Eastern Conference leaders New York Red Bulls.
