In the defence, the undoubtedly best defender this season Vigirl van Dijk is almost chosen by every (98.8%) AFer in the Team of the Season. Ajax's young captain Matthijs de Ligt (68.4%) and Liverpool's 20-year-old full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (56%) are also most fans' choices in the backline. Andy Robertson beats Jordi Alba to enter the XI only by a small margin (36.7% to 36.6%).

All Football ambassador Eden Hazard is the most appreciated midfielder with 67.8% votes. Another Ajax talent Frenkie de Jong and Man City ace Raheem Sterling both received votes from 47.1% AFers, forming the midfield trio with Hazard. Bernardo Silva ranks fourth in all the midfielders with 38.7% votes.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe team up on the frontline. However, Messi received votes from almost twice AFers as Ronaldo (94.8% to 51.6%) while Mbappe wins votes from 50.4% AFers. Premier League trio Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah miss the squad with around 20% votes each.
