Messi, Di Stéfano, Cruyff... the best football team of all time will be chosen based on the opinions of leading journalists and football experts.
AS chooses its Legends XI: the greatest team made up of the best players in the history of football. To decide on the best team ever, an exceptional jury will each offer their side, made up of their favourite players of all time, from which AS will create the Legends XI. Goalkeepers, strikers, midfielders… every position is covered by the greatest of all time and you can add you voice to the debate on Twitter using the hashtag #11LeyendAS.
The greatest players of all time
The AS jury is made up of renowned journalists and football experts, who will share their opinion with the readers of AS. Every day, one will share their version of the perfect team in the paper, on the web and on social media. Maradona, Messi and Cruyff are there, as well as a few surprises.
Alfredo Relaño, honorary president of Diario AS, gets the show on the road on Saturday 23 January and he’ll be followed by Vicente Jiménez (editor in chief of Diario AS), Álvaro Benito (SER), Santiago Segurola (Diario AS and Movistar +), Dani Garrido (SER), Enrique Ortego (AS), Áxel Torres (Diario AS and Movistar +), José Sámano (El País), Kiko Narváez (Diario AS and Mediaset), Luis Nieto (Diario As), Manu Carreño (SER and Mediaset), Cristian Arcos (AS Chile), Alejandro Gómez (AS México), Sarah Castro (AS Colombia) and Aritz Gabilondo (AS Argentina/Perú).
Once each team has been revealed by the jury members, Diario AS will publish the Legends XI, with the names that most featured in each respective team. Readers will also be invited to participate on Twitter, to create the Greatest Team, as voted by them.

This is the list where Messi gets mentioned more than CR7. There is a strong feeling, sometimes unrealised, that no matter what CR7 does, when it comes to "greatest of all time" Messi edges him. CR7 can win the WC, and still Messi will be considered more of "greatest of all time" than him. Especially bcos "goat" usually comes once a while; there was Pele, then Maradona towards Pele's end of reign, and now it seems we have 2 at the same time, and kind of we have to choose one. And Messi edges... anyways just my opinion/feeling.

No one can exclude the G.O.A.T. from this list. Excluding him makes the list invalid.
