St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson is in Aberdeen to discuss taking over as the new Dons head coach.
It is understood the Scottish Cup holders are close to agreeing terms with the 51-year-old and hope to have him in the dugout for their game on Saturday against Falkirk.
Both clubs announced on Wednesday that permission had been granted for talks to take place after Aberdeen met a contractual clause.
Sky Sports News revealed last month that Robinson had made the final five shortlist of candidates.
The Dons pressed ahead to try to appoint Eirik Horneland, but personal issues complicated matters and his move stalled.
