Adidas 'selling Messi's jersey more than they're able to make'

Messi mania has swept through US soccer to such an extent that even David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami and one of the most famous players of all time, has been struggling to get hold of his No 10 jersey.

Miami pulled off one of the biggest MLS signings of all time by bringing Lionel Messi to the States in July, just seven months after he captained Argentina to glory at the World Cup.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's arrival sparked a frenzy in America, with ticket prices for matches involving Miami skyrocketing and merchandise selling like never before.

According to the New York Times, Messi's pink No 10 Miami jersey has sold at such a rate that even Beckham has been forced to wait to send some to friends as gifts.

Despite being part-owner of the organization and a worldwide celebrity, Becks has found it hard to get hold of a Messi jersey since luring the Barcelona legend to Miami, with Adidas reportedly selling more than they have been able to make.

As a result, Inter's jersey is now the best-selling soccer shirt in North America, moving ahead of traditional European giants Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

Sports apparel kings Fanatics has sold more Messi jerseys than any other athlete asides from Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, with no player in any sport ever selling more on the site in the first 24 hours after switching teams.

The supply-and-demand problem is not expected to remain in the 2024 season, nevertheless, with the manufacturer now confident that it has enough of the next edition of Messi's jersey to meet it.

Inter Miami's next kit is set to be released in February ahead of the new MLS season, which will be Messi's first full campaign Stateside.

The 36-year-old missed the first four months of the previous season after arriving from Paris St-Germain in July, meaning he was unable to help them into this year's MLS playoffs.

Miami's season is now over after they missed out on the playoffs, though Messi still guided them to a first ever piece of silverware in the Leagues Cup final back in August.

Tata Martino's men also made it to the US Open Cup final, where they were beaten by Houston Dynamo at DRV PNK Stadium.

Ticket prices for next season have already soared in value with Messi set to be in Miami's ranks from the get go, with the team drawing record crowds ever since he arrived.

Beckham paid tribute to Inter Miami following the team's last game of the season at the weekend, as he celebrated the club's first piece of silverware with Messi and Sergio Busquets on a night out for dinner in Vice City.

The ex-England captain wrapped his arm around his eldest son, Brooklyn, 24, while posing for snaps with both former Barcelona players, who played an integral part in Miami's successful second-half of the season.
