Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian claims there is no defence of Jordan Pickford's challenge on Virgil van Dijk which resulted in serious injury for the defender.
Liverpool's talismanic centre back suffered a potentially season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee after Pickford recklessly flew in late with a scissor challenge during the Reds' 2-2 draw with Everton last Saturday.
The Toffees goalkeeper has received heavy criticism since, and opposite number one Adrian admitted it's hard to defend the challenge.
'It was a very bad challenge in a very bad position of Virgil's body,' said the Reds shot-stopper to Sky Sports, 'It was late. No player is allowed to do this kind of challenge',
'I'm a goalkeeper and I always defend goalkeepers, but going for a ball like this in that case… I don't know.
'It's not fair in that situation because he hasn't got much chance to block the ball in that position, just to hurt the other player.'
It has since been revealed Pickford will face no retrospective action for the challenge after it was not cautioned by both on-field referee Michael Oliver and VAR official David Coote during the match.
'As a footballer, your body is at risk every time you play but you have a few challenges that you are allowed to do.
'But I don't accept this kind of challenge. The federation, the Premier League cannot accept these kinds of things.'
The Reds are looking to get their defence of their Premier League title back on track with a home tie against Sheffield United on Saturday, with Adrian set to start in goal once again with first choice Alisson still sidelined.

We wish VVD a quick recovery, and strength to deal with the trauma this unfortunate injury will cause. But Adrian should know that these kind of tackles can happen at any moment.
