Sergio Aguero has revealed that he has recovered from Covid-19 and will return to Manchester City training soon.
It had already been a frustrating campaign for Aguero due to a succession of niggling injuries, and his circumstances got even worse when the 32-year-old tested positive for Covid-19 in 2021.
The City striker initially missed four games in January after being forced to isolate, after coming into contact with someone who had tested positive for the virus despite the fact he returned a negative test.
However, Aguero subsequently did test positive and was forced out of a further three fixtures which included league victories over West Brom, Sheffield United and Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup.
The Argentine has now declared that he has recovered and completed his 10 day period of isolation, and returned to the club's gym on Sunday as he prepares to regain match fitness.
Aguero took to Instagram to announce the good news: 'Fully recovered from COVID-19, I was at the club's gym today, and soon I'll be back training with my team mates. Can't wait.'
The striker's season has been plagued with injuries; he's only scored two goals for City this season with both strikes coming in the Champions League, and he hasn't scored in the Premier League for over a year.
The 32-year-old was in the midst of making a comeback at the start of the year, he stepped off the bench during victories over Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea; coming through those games unscathed.
However, testing positive for coronavirus was another set back in a frustrating campaign.
City boss Pep Guardiola has warned against rushing players back from Covid due to the lack of knowledge regarding their long-term recovery.
City have seen nine players return positive tests over the Christmas period and in addition four members of staff, an academy player and four players from their women's team.
