Newcastle United's recent form has been poor. Club legend Alan Shearer believes that if the team fails to get a result away to Fulham this weekend, manager Matthias Jaissle could be sacked next week.
Alan Shearer said: "I watched the game at St James' Park on Monday, and I'm not even sure what Newcastle are trying to play. What's the formation? What are the tactics? Everything looked very chaotic, which is worrying. It was a poor, dull performance, especially coming just three days after the Everton game. If you're going to lose, you should at least give everything, but Newcastle didn't do that in either game."
Newcastle fans have booed the team at the final whistle in two consecutive home matches. Meanwhile, several of the summer signings have yet to show their expected level, which has added to the fans' frustration.
Alan Shearer believes the away game at Fulham could be a crucial turning point for Matthias Jaissle's future as manager. He said: "Considering how much money Newcastle have spent, we have to look at the team's recruitment. It's hard to see a sufficient return on those investments at the moment. On the goal conceded on Monday, the goalkeeper could have done better."
"This weekend's away match at Fulham is a very important game. International breaks are particularly dangerous for managers under pressure, because they know what might happen next. As fans, we must stay patient, but the team also needs to give us something we can trust."
Alan Shearer also pointed out that Newcastle's biggest problem right now is a lack of creativity in attack. The team not only struggles to score but also finds it hard to create dangerous chances. He stressed that he doesn't mind players missing chances. What really concerns him is that the team can't even create them, and that is precisely the predicament Newcastle are in.
