Newcastle were dealt a major blow in their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund after Alexander Isak was forced off with injury.

The Magpies are hosting the German side at St James' Park hoping to keep up their unbeaten return to Europe's elite club competition following a 0-0 draw with AC Milan and a memorable 4-1 victory against PSG.

However, after just 15 minutes of the clash, Isak went down with what looked like a leg injury.

After some treatment, he managed to get up again, but was shaking his head while also walking gingerly.

Ultimately, the Swedish forward was unable to continue and was subsequently replaced by Callum Wilson.

Newcastle will be desperate for good news on his injury after the game, with Isak enjoying a fine season for Eddie Howe's side.

The forward has scored seven goals in just 11 games in all competitions, meaning he has netted 17 times in 38 appearances for the Magpies since joining last year.

After arriving from Real Sociedad as the club's record signing for £60m, Isak scored twice in his first three games before he picked up a serious thigh injury.

This kept the 24-year-old out of action for almost four months before he was fully fit for the rest of the campaign as the Magpies qualified for the Champions League.

In total, he scored 10 goals in 27 appearances last season as he dovetailed nicely in attack with Wilson.
