Alisson has revealed he made the decision to watch his father's funeral online to avoid missing Liverpool matches amid the coronavirus pandemic, despite an offer from team-mates to charter the goalkeeper a flight home.
Jose Agostinho Becker died in February last year, tragically drowning in a lake on the family's ranch near the town of Lavras do Sul, southern Brazil.
Alisson, who would speak to his dad every day, was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to remain in the UK.
The Liverpool goalkeeper told UOL Esporte there was not a day where he did not think about his father.
'I remember that the time he passed away was the height of the pandemic and I was unable to attend the funeral,' Alisson said. 'I participated online, it was my decision.
'Liverpool offered me everything to travel there, my teammates offered to charter a flight so I could go straight to Porto Alegre.
'They would do it for me if I wanted to, but I couldn't go right now.'
Alisson said his wife's pregnancy had contributed to the decision to stay in the UK, due to risks posed by coronavirus.
The 30-year-old said the awareness that he could have missed crucial Premier League matches for Liverpool had also been a consideration.
Alisson would have been forced to isolate for 10 days on his return had he made the trip back to Brazil.
'My wife was pregnant, she was at risk, and I couldn't put her in danger,' Alisson said. I couldn't leave her alone. She suffered as much as I did.
'My concern was my mother, but my brother managed to be with her. It was a rational decision to stay away at that time.
'Liverpool was also going through a difficult time, fighting for a place in the Champions League, and if I had gone to Brazil I would have had to spend some time isolated and I don't know if I would have had time to return in time to finish the season. My teammates also needed me.'
Alisson missed only one match following the tragedy, with Liverpool's number one returning to help their push for Champions League qualification.
The defending Premier League champions had been at risk of missing out on qualification, having spent part of the season outside the top four.
Alisson played a key role in Liverpool's end of season push, with the goalkeeper famously scoring a late header to snatch a 2-1 victory against West Brom in a crucial end of season fixture.
The goal put Liverpool's fate in their own hands, with Jurgen Klopp's side going on to finish third, three points clear of fifth placed Leicester.
‘I’m too emotional, with everything that’s happened in my life recently with my family,’ Alisson said after scoring the goal.
‘Football is my life, from since I remember with my father. I hope he was there watching and celebrating.
'That was for my family and for the boys.’
Alisson has said the goal and the birth of his son helped him in the aftermath of his father's death, as well as the support he received from the world of football.
The 30-year-old is currently with Brazil's national team in Qatar.
He is expected to start in their opening World Cup match on Thursday against Serbia as the South Americans pursue a record sixth title.

That’s a real team player. I personally would have gone to the funeral but it’s what was best for him. 🙏
