Real Madrid survived a scare to defeat Almeria 2-1 on the opening weekend of the La Liga season.

It seemed an upset was on the cards when the promoted side got off to a dream start in the sixth minute, when Largie Ramazani sent those at the Power Horse Stadium into ecstasy, slotting past Thibaut Courtois to give his side a surprising lead.

Madrid dominated possession and, although they were behind at the break, Lucas Vazquez squared things up just after the hour mark with a smart finish.

David Alaba put Madrid ahead in the 71st minute to calm the champions' nerves, and Carlo Ancelotti's side saw out the game comfortably to get their season off to a winning start.
