Real Madrid sealed a key win over Almeria on their return to La Liga action but the tie was packed with controversy.
Dani Carvajal’s added time goal eventually secured all three points for the hosts in Madrid with the match officials and VAR under the microscope again.
Match referee Francisco Jose Hernandez Maeso and his team of officials made three second half calls in favour of Real Madrid including a penalty decision for the home team.
Almeria saw a goal ruled out for offside, when they were still leading 2-1, before Vinicius Junior’s equaliser was deemed not to be handball.
Carlo Ancelotti was firm in his assessment of the referee at full time with the Italian claiming each decision was the correct one.
However, Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez dropped a hint of certain decisions favouring their rivals, and Almeria appear to agree.
Almeria head coach Gaizka Garitano was sent to the stands in the closing stages and defender Marc Pubill claimed it was impossible for his team to win in Madrid.
“I think that someone decided that we weren’t allowed to win here at the Bernabeu today, and that’s what happened. I have nothing more to say.”

It's Spanish FA that don't want you guys to win, because they want Madrid to win the league. It is well

If I am going to be honest with you,in my own humble opinion without being sentimental of course, without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter from a distinctive perspective,I would like to say I have nothing to say🥺

To all those asking why 11 minutes was added 😹 1. When add on times are added, we don’t restrict one team from playing, both teams still play 2. Almeria could have also scored in that 11 minutes and won the win the game right? 3. All those VAR checks, each check was like 2 minutes each, we had Almeria players wasting time, sometimes it took them 10-15 seconds to throw in the ball 4. We had a lot of players who went down and the game had to be stopped 5. Even when the add on time was added, an Almeria player went down, stayed on the ground for almost a minute, when the referee asked him to go out for treatment, he stood up and started laughing that he was fine, the referee looked at the bench, did one finger sign and rolled the hand meaning extra 1 minute, technically it was 12 minutes add on time after the guy wasted time laying on the floor. 7. Back to point one and two, when the 11 minutes was added, both teams were still playing not only Real Madrid was allowed to play in that extra added time, also Almeria could have scored and won the game
