Xabi Alonso revealed "my wish is that we know what will happen in the future", as rumours continue to suggest Enzo Fernandez could leave Chelsea this summer.
Chelsea began their 2026-27 Premier League campaign on Monday, edging local rivals Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage.
Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer all got on the scoresheet as the Blues started their Premier League season with a win for the first time since 2022-23.
Alonso became the first Chelsea manager to see his side score three goals in his first Premier League game in charge since Maurizio Sarri in August 2018, when they beat Huddersfield 3-0.
Fernandez, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City this summer, was substituted on in the 65th minute, creating one chance and completing 19 of his 21 passes as Chelsea saw out the win.
With the summer transfer window closing on September 1, Alonso believes Fernandez's future will become clearer this week.
When asked about the Argentine's potential move, Alonso told BBC Match of the Day: "In football, I am not surprised by anything. We will see.
"My wish is that we know what will happen in the future, but we will see this week."
Despite their victory at Fulham, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez also made the headlines for the wrong reasons.
Sanchez made four saves, but should have done better for Josh King's strike for Fulham, while the Spaniard's poor parry allowed Gonzalo Garcia to score on the rebound.
Sanchez also faced plenty of criticism last season, but Alonso came to the defence of his goalkeeper.
"This is all about the team and you know it's not about individual situations - it's about understanding what it takes for sure," Alonso told Sky Sports.
"The first goal we can do better than that but it's a process. It's day one and normally it's easier to learn with three points."

Is that how a serious minded and good Goalkeeper should parry a shot? The guy isn't good for a Team that wants to win laurel. Sanchez was part of the reason Chelsea missed out on European competition this season. His eight(8) errors committed that led to direct goals last season.
Shouldn't a defender be there to clear as soon as he made the first save? Y'all just want to blame him for everything

The first goal I get it but blaming his for the second is pure madness. Colwill is singlehandedly responsible for that second goal not Sanchez

Sanchez made the defenders play under unnecessary pressure. How long can he continue to be making the same mistake? Look David Raya of Arsenal, Hull City keeper and Brentford keeper. They all did well. Sanchez is always fidgeting when he's in the goalpost. What is he always afraid of. If we want to be title contenders we need a solid goalkeeper, not this rubbish Sanchez is doing. It will cost us a lot of points going forward if he continues like this
