On Thursday, Manchester United sent out the club’s official 2024/25 yearbook to members and season ticket holders. In his foreword, head coach Rúben Amorim reflected on his first months in charge and shared his ambitions for the upcoming season.
“For everyone associated with football – players, staff and fans alike – the start of a new season is a time of excitement and optimism, and a moment to look forward to,” Amorim wrote. “We should not completely forget or ignore what happened last season, because we can learn valuable lessons from the difficult moments and take inspiration from the positive ones that reminded us of our potential to be better.”
Reflecting on the challenges of last season, he admitted that the club endured plenty of “disappointment and pain” as part of a process to transform its operations. However, he believes those experiences have put the squad in a stronger position heading into 2024/25.
“Thanks to everything I’ve learned over the past eight months and the players’ understanding of my expectations, we are now in a much better place than if I had only joined this summer,” he added.
Amorim also spoke passionately about the club’s identity and its fanbase:
“One of the main things I have learned is how magical this football club is, and how special its fans are. I feel a big sense of responsibility to help put Manchester United back where it belongs. As I said on the pitch at Old Trafford after our final game of last season, I strongly believe that much better days lie ahead. I cannot promise we will achieve all our long-term goals this season, but I can promise I will give everything to help set us firmly on that path.”
