Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed the absences of Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte for their Europa League clash with Real Sociedad on Thursday night. United travel to the Reale Arena for the their third meeting in four years, with neither side enjoying the season they had hoped for so far.
Amorim has been criticised for his stubbornness over his three at the back system, but the Portuguese manager confirmed he would not be changing against the Txuri-Urdin.
“I think the system is not the problem; it is the way of playing. We have a lot of problems and we are trying to work on the problems. Every system needs different characteristics. I am still really confident. I will not change that [my formation].”
The Red Devils look a long way off European qualification from their Premier League position, defener Matthijs de Ligt said that could focus their efforts on the Europa League.
“That is the consequence [Champions League qualification] if you win the tournament. That is our main goal. We need to take it game-by-game. We have to put everything on the line to win the game and hopefully we will get a good result tomorrow.”
De Ligt explained that he was not phased by the pressure United were facing currently.
“We have encountered a lot of pressure and a lot of criticism. For me, it is not something different as I have been at clubs where you are expected to win titles. You have to keep going, you have to work hard and you have to improve.”
However he admitted that they had not reached the levels expected of them.
“We would have expected a little bit better than it is at the moment. We know we have not been good enough and we try to improve things. It is also something, in the end, a little bit to do with luck. We know we have to improve.”
Real Sociedad are currently sitting 9th in La Liga, albeit just four points off a European place themselves. Earlier in the day Imanol Alguacil answered questions from the press, and while he acknowledged that United were favourites not just for the tie but also the competition, he believes Real Sociedad can beat them if they carry out their duties well.

People complaining about Amorim system like utd played so well under the previous coach ETH who used 4 at the back. The utd players also could not adapt easily to ETH thereby fans saying he don’t have a style of play. Now there is a style and they are asking the coach to change for the players, who can’t adapt to it…The truth is United lack good, quality, passionate, character, experience and leadership kind of players who could do it on the field of play even with little coaching..The level of average players in this team is too much..Infact the 3-4-3 system would have been a beast and new challenge to other coaches in d league if he had players to implement it so well, it’s about overloading in defense, middle and attacking through the wingback roles..Let’s give Ruben time and all required resources he will improve the team as he is a passionate and tactically good modern coach, pple should also remember the utd environment has been toxic that anyone who comes there is easier to fail than to succeed, so which make time and all resources vital during this rebuilding
God bless you brother 🙏

what is the problem ? If the system is not a problem. we could say the problem is the manager, the player or both. In my opinion, In EPL, it is difficult to play a back three because wingers are so fast. on the other side United's players are lazy and slow

I believe you Amorim! We have players that's so lazy to run, players that doesn't know when to apply their individual intelligence during tough games just as you see in other top teams. Most times it's not Pep's tactics that win games for City buh individual brilliance and that's what's lacking in United....it's not the formation. Let Amorim buy his own players and we'll see. The problem is whether INEOS will get him what he need.

The players are yet to adapt to the system… Amorim won’t be the first manager to use this style of play. But you need a beast players who are attacking minded to fit in the information
