Andre Onana’s errors are as much the team’s as they are his, according to Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim.
Onana made significant blunders as United drew 2-2 with Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday.
The goalkeeper, who had boldly claimed that United were "way better" than Lyon in the build-up, was at fault for both Lyon goals.
He let Thiago Almada’s 25th-minute free-kick float over his head to give Lyon the lead, before allowing Rayan Cherki to equalise at the death, cancelling out Joshua Zirkzee’s 88th-minute header.
Onana has now made eight errors leading to goals since the start of last season, more than any other Premier League goalkeeper in all competitions.
But Amorim told TNT Sports: "When one player has a mistake, all the team makes a mistake, so we continue like that.
"We are really disappointed [to concede late]. We should have taken a one-goal advantage to the next game but we have the next game at home - we will try to win that game."
When questioned over his faith in Onana, Amorim replied: "We continue to do the same thing. Training, seeing the games, trying to choose the best eleven to win the match."
On a more positive note for United, 19-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro headed home his first goal for the club on the stroke of half-time, drawing Amorim's side level.
Yoro, a big-money signing from Lille last summer, missed much of the season due to injury, but he has played regularly under Amorim.
And while he did not enjoy his goal, due to there being "no time for celebration", the defender insisted United must not let their heads drop ahead of next week's second leg.
"I think if we won 2-1 we would be more confident [to make it through]. It's difficult but we need to keep our heads up. We didn't lose, we can win at Old Trafford," he said.
Onana and United will look to bounce back when they face in-form Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.

This isn’t the team’s mistake, it’s a one man error. He should admit that & work on correcting those mistakes.

Even Peter, Van der Sar and David de Gea, all of them at some points and matches didn't perform well, I am saying it because over the years, I had watched them perform, I will say that some of the mistakes of Onana, are defensive errors, but British press been opinionated as always, will blame them on Onana, no one among the goal keepers are perfect, and in my view, Onana has been fantastic, and will surely shut up the mouths of all his dictractors to shame.

The problem at United is so big its not all abt Onana. Firstly how many goals United has so far and how many it conceded if United hace sharp shooters it shld have many goals. United rarely score more than 3 goals. It's a sign shows that there are no good strikers at United to convert chances created bcz Unitedmade several touches in opponent's box. Secondly if u see that goals the media blames Onana but that goal was a rebound, where was the diffenters to clear the ball or just having one deffenter at the line none of them again the midfielders leaves the person driving the ball upto United box why not fouling the player b4 reaches the box bcz the time was already up even if you get a yellow card it was necessary to cause a foul at the middle of the pitch than to try to deffent in the box. They lacked wisdom all the players.

Why Onana won't make mistakes, both EPL pundits especially their ex-players and English press do accuses him this that, forgotten that football is a collective responsibility. Supposedly, Andre Onana is an English player such noise won't surfaced. Arron Ramsadalle or Pickford for such thing. Unreasonable minds don't appreciate what they have but appreciate it when it slips out. continue but remember De gea who's now at Fliorentina in Italian league!

No one is talking about Ganacho & Hojland losing balls in the front, Casemiro giving a blind pass leading to a goal. This is fucking racism.

Your mind is working bro A lot of guys don’t understand this basic principle of football Imagine if our defenders are defending well, midfielders are not loosing any ball to the opponent and attackers making every ball they get a goal. They all make a mistake by loosing balls and not scoring so why blame Onnana too for making the same mistake the players are all doing? You understand football

Agreed Amorim!! Football is a collective sport. What happens to a player who unintentionally misses his/her spot kick in crucial matches in more than one occasion??? Will he be labelled as a very bad player??? There’re many of such examples in the game of football

He is right. The mistake started from him the manger. Leaving by two goals at that time, his responsibilities is to organize the team in a way that will defend the lead. He made a mistake with his organization, the midfielders couldn’t keep the ball away from their danger zone, the defenders didn’t defend well and allowed the Lyon player to shoot meanwhile they were all in front of him and Onnana too made a mistake by letting the ball bounce back for a rebound meaning the whole team made a mistake. Football is a team work and they all made a mistake so if anyone want to overlook this and blame only the keeper is either they don’t understand football or they hate the goal keeper. Onnana hasn’t been at his best since joining United but if you wanna blame only Onnana just ask yourself if United is at its best as United suppose to be?

Our major problem now is Amorim, Onana, Hojlund, Dalot and Garnacho.
Your captain, defenders, Casmiro etc are not more your problem? The day Man U will accept their team as an average team, the rebuild will start smoothly because a team without the support of fan is very hard for the players and the manager to handle
